Humane Eviction/Deterent methods
DO NOT TRAP AND RELOCATE
ITS A DEATH SENTENCE FOR THE ANIMAL AND DOES NOT FIX ANYTHING, ANOTHER ANIMAL WILL JUST MOVE IN
The best and most humane way to handle wildlife who have become a problem for humane is through humane eviction and or deterent methods. The biggest thing to remember is that the animal is only doing what comes naturally. If the property is in good repair, garbage is secure, food isnt left out and animal enclorures are secure you should rarely have an issue.
Humane Eviction is basically making the area uncomfortable for the animal. Through noise (talk radio works great), lights (strobe lights work best) or smells (Evict liquid or coyote urine), the animal no longer has a warm, dark quiet location to live and leaves on its own. This method works particularly well for moms with babies. She will take her babies one by one and move them to another den.
Deterent is stopping the animal before they enter the property. This is mostly done by using smells (repel-all or coyote urine), noise (talk radio) or a hot-wire.
Below is detailed directions from a professional HUMANE wildlife removal company. Boone Wildlife and pest solutions is the only company I recommend. Most companies "euthanize" the terrified trapped animal and throw the entire trap into a body of water. This is specifically for raccoons but the same methods are used for most animals. If the information on this page hasn't solved your problem, call a wildlife rehabber or Boone wildlife for assistance.
That late-night thumping in the attic?
Tipped-over trash cans?
Muddy paw prints on the deck?
It’s not random—it’s our ANNUAL RACCOON SEASON.

Here’s What You Need To Know:
Mating Season
Raccoons in Michigan mate between January and June, with peak activity in early spring. Males roam long distances and become more vocal as they search for a mate.
New Mothers
By late spring, females settle into quiet, hidden spaces—often attics, crawlspaces, or under decks—to raise litters of 2 to 5 kits.
A Risk You Might Not See
Trapping raccoons this time of year can unintentionally separate a mother from her young.
The result? Orphaned kits left behind—often inside insulation or behind walls—creating heartbreaking situations and are very costly cleanups.

What About Wildlife Rehabilitators?
Seems easy enough to call one, right? Not so fast..
Most wildlife rehabilitators are non-profits operating from DONATIONS and SHEER PASSION. And this time of year? They’re completely overwhelmed.
They already care for dozens (sometimes hundreds) of animals, and there simply isn’t always space for more.
And raccoon kits?
They’re NOT an easy species to rehab. While many wild animals are independent after just a few weeks, raccoons stay with their mother for up to a year, learning to forage, avoid predators, and survive.
Without that guidance, their chances of survival drop dramatically—and the rehab process is LONG, delicate, and resource-intensive.
